Deacons

In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.  (1 Timothy 3:8–13)

"DEACON” IS A TRANSLITERATION OF A GREEK WORD MEANING, “SERVANT.” IT COMES FROM THE GREEK WORD DIAKONIA, WHICH MEANS "SERVICE," AND DIAKONOS, WHICH CAN BE TRANSLATED AS "SERVANT," "HELPER," "ATTENDANT," OR "MINISTER".

How we serve Christ will vary according to the spiritual gifts that He has given us and the opportunities that come our way. But every Christian should have the mindset, “I am a servant of Jesus Christ.”

Serving Christ is not volunteering, where you give a few hours now and then to help out. It's a 24/7 calling. Whatever you're doing or wherever you're at, you're a servant of the Lord who rescued you from eternal judgment. He saved you so you choose to serve Him always.

It's important that you serve the Lord for the right motives, not for praise or to feel important. The right reason to serve is to please the Lord who saved you while you were still a sinner and you deserved His judgment.

Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
