Baptism at Hells Gate

Baptism by being immersed in water (or dipped under water) is an outward expression of the inward experience of salvation. Baptism is a demonstration that the old way of life has ended, and a new life of faith in Jesus Christ has begun (2 Corinthians 5:17). Baptism is a visual testimony, or public declaration to others that the new believer (symbolically) identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ

BAPTISMS IN THE RIVER

WHY GET BAPTIZED?

Colossians 2:12 says: “For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead."

The Bible gives us several reasons why baptism is an important step in the Christian life:

A Symbol of our Faith

Baptism is an expression of our saving faith in Jesus. It represents our salvation experience and the finished work of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins and His resurrection it is like a symbol of our faith or a stamp of validation.

God Ordained

God-ordained Baptism and it was commanded by Jesus. Jesus gave these instructions as part of His Great Commission to us, His church: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20).

Discipleship

Baptism is a very important part of Christian discipleship. It is is an act of obedience to please God. Baptism identifies us with Christs death, burial, and resurrection:. Romans 6:3-4 says, “Or do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

Repentance

When we repent of our sins and come to faith in Jesus Christ, we get baptized as a testimony of our salvation and our union with Him. We are also identified with the body of Christ through baptism. (1 Corinthians 12:12–13).

Clean Conscience

1 Peter 3:21 says: “And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” When you give your life to Jesus, He gives you His Holy Spirit to fill you or immerse you with Himself, and He washes you of your sins. When you "believe" in Jesus you are filled with the Spirit and made clean - not from dirt, but from sin.
